Highlights from the TFSA/JCCI Trade Power Days series

The Trade Power Days series was created for Southern African firms looking to launch or boost their export trade, and had a combined participation of just over 500. Here’s what one of them had to say:

“The first webinar I attended was on the UK market opportunities. I have since registered on the TFSA School of Export, and my knowledge about export is growing every day. The ITC Trademap, which I’m still learning to navigate, is also proving to be a great tool. All of this is really helping my small business thrive.”

Bavanisha Maharaj, General Sales Manager, Skams Components

Each webinar was expertly moderated by JCCI’s CEO, Bernadette Zeiler, and was topped and tailed by TFSA’s Lead on Access to Information & Trade Promotion, Rob Moodie, and Honorary Consul for South Africa to UK, Rob Cannavo. If you are now thinking that you missed out, or want to revisit the webinars, then we got you covered. See below for a brief taster of each session with a link to the recording.

Webinar 1: Online Platforms for the Agri Sector

Learn more about the digital solutions most relevant to Southern African exporters as we introduce you to some key online platforms. Guest speakers Cobus van der Merwe from Skudu Match, Wian Potgieter from AgrigateOne and Zamokuhle Thwala from Agrikool laid out issues such as how farmers in the region can sell online, keep an eye on their produce once it leaves the pack-house, and how it lands with the international buyer.

Webinar 2: UK Market Opportunities for the SACU+M Region

Did you know that the SACU countries and Mozambique supply just over 1% of the UK’s imports? This webinar looks at how to boost that number, what the current UK tastes and trends are, and how more value could be added locally. Our very own Rob Moodie and Cleopatra Ngulube ran through TFSA’s priority sectors and key tools and resources on the TFSA Trade and Information Hub. Rob Cannavo unpacked how cashew nuts from Mozambique end up in UK supermarkets via processing and consolidation in Vietnam, labelled as ‘Produce of Vietnam’, when additional value could be derived by exporting directly to the UK.

Webinar 3: Amazon presents Global Market Opportunities for SACU+M Exporters

Clive Charlton from Amazon presented its digital transformation tool, Amazon Web Services (AWS), demonstrating how to reduce some of the friction experienced in global trade. The AWS tool can help your export business manage and improve a range of trade activities including supply chain management and delivering greater customer targeting and services. Clive’s presentation was followed by a Q&A session bringing to light some key concerns and questions from regional exporters. Learn more on how Amazon/AWS, and other tools, can help grow your global export business.

All six countries were represented with guest speakers from leading business support organisations, including: Peterson Molukanelo from Free State Development Corperation in South Africa; Maria Immanuel from Namibia Agriculture Trade Forum; Bobo Senosi from Botswana Investment and Trade Centre; Lesei Lesei from Lesotho Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Bongani Ntshangase from Eswatini Investment Promotion Authority; and Osvaldo Faquir from the Industrial Association of Mozambique (AIMO).
